Disney Tween Brands

Attack of the Killer Tweens By Rick Aristotle Munarriz June 11, 2008 Comments (0) 3 Recommendations How big are High School Musical and Hannah Montana for Disney (NYSE: DIS)? Huge, going by the family entertainment giant's claim that licensed merchandise will result in retail sales topping the $30 billion mark this year. Disney-branded wares rang up $27 billion in sales at the retail level a year ago. Miley Cyrus and the stage-happy cast of HSM are ringing up less than 10% of that. However, with Disney pointing to its tween merchandising surging from $400 million last year to $2.7 billion this year, that spurt in reaching kids between the ages of 9 and 12 is accounting for the lion's share in the $3 billi...

Dr.Seuss
Posted by Administrator on 17 Mar 2008

heodore Geisel is best known by the pseudonym Dr. Seuss (the correct pronunciation of Seuss rhymes with "voice" not "loose"), perhaps the most recognizable name in literature. Every December we're treated to How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and each year young kids are introduced to classics like Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat, yet the wider public does not appear to know much about the man behind these famous works.    To gear up for the release of the CGI-animated film Horton Hears A Who!, we aim to change that by presenting five things you didn't know about Dr. Seuss, the most familiar and beloved pen name in children's literature. 1- Dr. Seuss adopted his pseudonym by drinking gin Geisel's father and grandfather were both brewmasters in Massachusetts prior to prohibition. While he was a senior at Dartmouth in 1925 -- during the prohibition era -- he served as a co...

Joining A Buying group

Joining a Buying Group-Good or Bad Idea By Alan J. Zell Is it possible for independent retailers to have some of the advantages that larger organizations have? Yes, and there is a way to have some advantages that large organizations don't take advantage of. It is by stores coming together as an loosely organized group. I do not call them "buying groups" because there is more to what a group might do than just buying. I call them "skull groups". ( I don't know where the term came from but I first heard of it from a friend who had automobile dealerships and I've continued to use it.) The basic format is a group of businesses doing or selling the same types of merchandise or services where their market areas do not overlap. How many could make up a group? Too few would not be effective; too many may be difficult to manage. I believe between 8 and 10 would be about right. ...

How the Bicycle Came To Be
Posted by Administrator on 11 Mar 2008

Remember your first bike? Was it a Christmas or birthday present? You had probably identified it well before "that special day" and nagged, conspired, schemed and cajoled your parents until the unrelenting "buy me a bike" paid off. Or you may have saved up all your hard earned pocket money to get that gleaming machine. Maybe it was an old rusting frame with flat tyres and brakes that either didn't work or were seized against the wheel rim so you had to peddle twice as hard to keep up with the rest. Your first proper bike, not the fixed wheel tricycle you rode in circles around the front room, your first two wheeler with no training wheels, would have changed your life. It meant independence... you could go anywhere... you were free! You didn't need money, just air in your tyres, a pocket full of Chinese lollies and energy and enthusiasm to burn. As a child you are de...

Don't cry for toy sales
Posted by Administrator on 10 Dec 2007

Don't cry for toy sales; it'll still be a good year December 1, 2007 BY KATE PRAHLAD CAPITAL NEWS SERVICE What kids want, kids get. And kids want toys.     Despite the toy recalls that have made news this year, analysts expect the toy industry will still rake it in this holiday season. "Kids are going to call the shots here," said P.K. Kannan, an associate professor of marketing at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Across the board, toys might see "maybe minus 5%" in revenues in response to the recalls, Kannan said, but not for any specific brands. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled millions of Chinese-made toys this summer because of lead contamination or defective designs. "It se...
